GM Ultium Platform CES Promotional Video
Character editing, rigging, and animation at yU+co in addition to 3d modeling of vehicles
This GM Ultium promotional video was a project done as an employee of yU+co, a motion graphics/titles studio in Los Angeles, California. I worked primarily as an animator, with additional work on creating models from client-provided reference of the stylized GM vehicles.
I was responsible for the animation of all of the characters in the video. With a short turnaround period, characters were separated into background and spotlight characters. Background characters were given animations that could be looped as long as they were in frame, with spotlight characters getting specific choreography.
Characters went through several iterations during look development, moving from a stout, sphere-based character to the more elongated pill shape with gloves we see here. Hats were added to help define the roles of these characters. Hands were a particular challenge to find the right style for. We moved between more accurate gloves and more mitten like hands until the current style was selected.
I was also responsible for making 3D models for all of the vehicles, from the rolling pallets to the large trucks. Clients provided reference images of the vehicles that I had to build off of. Certain changes were made to fit the style of the promotional video, in order to make the characters fit in the vehicle and make components fit together as well.
